Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are specialists with advanced training and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of various head and neck conditions and injuries. After four years of dental school, an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon completes four to six years of additional formal training in treating the craniomaxillofacial complex. This specialty is one of 9 dental specialties recognized internationally and by the American Dental Association (ADA).
Dr. Alder has a deep back ground and training in Oral Surgery from Northwestern University and his residency at Rush University Medical Center. He had the opportunity for advanced training during his senior year in dental school and when he arrived as a resident with extensive training he had even more opportunity to perform surgery. Dr. Alder is proficient at surgery in the mouth whether it be removing teeth or treating gum disease. He also worked with the Head and Neck Cancer Team at Rush.. He began placing dental implants during his residency and has seen the gradual evolution from a speculative treatment to a highly successful restoration. He participated in research at Rush regarding Sleep Apnea. Head and Neck Pain is one of Dr. Alder’s long time interests and he has studied extensively with the pioneers of the field.
